Weg vrij voor huizenbouw in Markermeer

Den Haag, 18 dec. Amsterdam, Almere en Lelystad kunnen werk maken van plannen voor buitendijks bouwen. Staatssecretaris Tineke Huizinga (Verkeer en Waterstaat) biedt ruimte om 1100 hectare grond te benutten voor woningbouw doordat het peil van het Markermeer wordt losgekoppeld van het IJsselmeer.
Dat blijkt uit Huizinga’s Nationaal Waterplan dat de Tweede Kamer vandaag krijgt toegestuurd. Dit plan stoelt op het advies van de Deltacommissie over hoe Nederland ook op langere termijn te beschermen tegen de gevolgen van klimaatverandering.
De commissie, geleid door oud-minister Cees Veerman, pleitte begin september ervoor het peil van het IJsselmeer geleidelijk met maximaal 1,5 meter mee te laten stijgen met de stijgende zeespiegel. Zo kan het gebied dienen als zoetwaterreservoir.
Het peil van het Markermeer gaat niet mee omhoog, staat in het advies. Op waterstaatkundig gebied zijn er geen redenen meer om belemmeringen op te werpen voor huizenbouw in het Markermeer, die Amsterdam, Almere en Lelystad al lang van plan zijn. Het peil van het Markeermeer fluctueert immers niet mee, aldus een woordvoerster van Huizinga. Die hamert er wel op dat de nieuwbouwwoningen hoger komen staan om levensbedreigende situaties, door stijgend zeewaterpeil, te voorkomen.
